Cleona started as a warehouse. That was the first building constructed on the four acres of land owned by the Long family, Lebanon County farmers. That was in 1883. Seven years later, the Longs built the first house in Cleona, and the town grew from there.

In 1894, Cleona residents established the first school. Small businesses, churches and a second school followed. And in 1929, Cleona was finally incorporated as a town.
