Beginning life as an agricultural community and vacation retreat, Ephrata has remained a quiet and quaint municipality since its founding in 1732. The borough is home to a wide variety of attractions and curiosities, including the Ephrata Main Theater, which hosts films and live performances; the Ephrata Cloister, a former religious community dedicated to spiritual growth and seclusion from the secular world; and the Eicher Arts Center, a historic home commonly used for community gatherings.
Ephrata also plays host to the Ephrata Fair, an annual celebration of Ephrata's roots as an agrarian culture and rural heritage. The fair features livestock judging, petting zoos, a midway and other special treats.
Ephrata's summers are very hot and its winters freezing cold, so its residents need reliable and affordable heating and plumbing services.
